This class is available one-on-one or small group (2-4 students) via Skype or in-person.  We do six- and twelve- week sessions that cover books appropriate to prep school or honors classes from ninth through twelfth grades and Advanced Placement English.   Tutorials combine intensive close reading of the texts with writing exercises to nurture the ability to interpret and analyze literature of all genres.  We focus on developing a tool kit of interpretive techniques for reading literature.  Tutorials build a foundation in canonical texts.  We work intensively on thesis statements, introductions, paragraph development, selecting quotes, and interpreting citations.  We study model essays and paradigms for structuring an argument.  The course also works regularly with AP practice tests, developing speed at reading difficult passages, familiarity with the technical vocabulary that the exam tests, and strategies for multiple choice questions.
