6-8 Applications, College Counseling and Essay Coaching
6-8 Applications, College Counseling and Essay Coaching
This course provides the support for applications to 6-8 schools and is much more than getting help on college applications. College Counseling Start to Finish is a life-changing experience for your student in which they will learn: how to research their interests; protocols for correspondence and phone contact; writing essays that display their accomplishments and concrete reasons why each school's course and research offerings make it a good fit; and clearly envision their path through college and into a fulfilling job. ExecuTutor builds a college list based on your preferences, academic strengths, personality, and budget. We will tailor an exploratory long list of universities for you and help edit it to a short list of eight colleges through our counseling sessions. We manage all the moving parts of college applications, such as distributing recommendations, drafting your resumé, and completing and editing online applications. Through interviews with the student, brainstorming sessions, reading model personal statements, and experiential exercises, we help you write all short essays and longer personal statements that showcase your intellect and personality. We have experience with everything from art school to business school. ExecuTutor works closely with students as well as their parents, sending weekly summary reports to parents along with an explanation of the tasks that need to be completed for the following session. Course includes writing polite inquiry letters, followup emails, and thank you cards to recommenders; coaching with researching offerings; help formulating personalized courses of study for each school that will professionalize the application; targeting the right departmental staff to ask important questions. All of these academic and life skills plus a strong application that will make your student stand out from the competition. This class involves homework and one-on-one sessions. Students should expect to spend approximately 6-8 hours per week on homework over the summer and 4-5 hours per week during the school term. We provide 40 hours, which can be used for virtual counseling, editing, research on behalf of the student, and project management. The ratio of counseling to editing will be different for each student. We aim to seek the perfect mix of services to enable your student to produce outstanding essays. 20 hours of face-to-face sessions is usually enough to complete all the materials for 6-8 applications.
